A first Chiropractic appointment should be more than a quick treatment. It is an opportunity to explain what is limiting you, understand the proposed assessment and decide whether the recommended plan makes sense for your needs.

Before the appointment

Write down when symptoms began, what makes them better or worse, relevant health conditions, medication and previous imaging or treatment. Think about a functional goal, such as sitting through work, lifting a child or returning to running.

During assessment

The Chiropractor may discuss your history and examine movement, strength or neurological function when appropriate. You should be told what the assessment involves and be able to decline or pause any part. Consent is an ongoing conversation.

Questions worth asking

Ask what the working explanation is, which options exist, what benefits and risks are expected, how progress will be measured, and when referral to another healthcare professional would be appropriate. Be cautious of guaranteed outcomes or pressure to prepay a long plan.
